The terms lockout and tagout refer to practices and procedures that protect workers from the unexpected activation or start-up of machinery and equipment or from the dangerous release of energy when servicing machinery. This course explains the importance of the lockout and tagout process in protecting the health and safety of people.
Employers must train ALL employees in the basic concepts of control, verification of de-energization and clearance of hazardous points before re-energizing equipment. Workers whose duties involve the installation, maintenance or repair of equipment must be trained in the detailed inspection procedures required for the equipment in question. This training should enable them to recognize tasks likely to expose them to dangers, as well as effective methods for limiting this exposure.
